President's Welcome

The Canberra Blues Society (Incorporated) is a 'not-for-profit' collective of like-minded individuals who are passionate about the art of traditional and contemporary blues music.  One of our aims is to support family-friendly venues throughout the Capital Region that nurture and support local amateur and professional blues musicians.  The Canberra Blues Society also aims to provide regular music jams, blues events and blues-related social activities for the enjoyment of its members.

We seek to establish an environment that will both educate and showcase blues music, blues music culture and the blues spirit to the wider community. We also hope to be a regular meeting place for people to become involved with others with similar musical interests.

The Canberra Blues Society - promoting blues throughout the Capital Region.

Beachhead's Birthday Blues Bash
Written by Russ Lawrence
Wednesday, 14 May 2008

Following many requests, the CBS will commence a series of Saturday Night Blues Sessions which will showcase blues performers who hold a unique or special place in the Australian Blues scene.

The first of these special events will take place on Saturday, 14th June, when one of Australia’s finest blues voices, Rod ‘Beachhead’ Jeffery, hits town for a one-off show @ The Statesman Hotel, Curtin. Performing on what will be his 55th Birthday, Rod will be backed by the Reverend Gary 'Guitar' Dale, his long-time Musical Director and lead guitarist and a Canberra rhythm section comprising ex-Beachhead member, Dean Edgecombe on bass guitar and Mitch Preston on Drums.

Rod is one of the finest exponents of the Blues in this country and his recent appearance at the 2008 Australian Blues Musical Festival in Goulburn was a rare treat  - this is a night you will not want to miss. Tickets on the night will be $15 for CBS Members and $20 for Non-members.

With a 5 octave vocal range, nobody in Australia interprets the blues like Rod and when Dutch Tilders says he has the best R'nB' voice in Australia, it gives you an idea of what a night you are in for.

For those of you who have not heard Beachhead perform before, you are in for some serious blues - here's a little teaser - enjoy: http://youtube.com/watch?v=XSecEJmCc6s

From the Bedroom to the Recording Studio
Written by Russ Lawrence
Saturday, 29 March 2008

Following on from his very successful recent tour of Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Finland, Sri Lanka and Thailand, Glen Terry has hit the recording studio.  While the album will contain a lot of Glen's signature songs, it will also include a few new self-penned numbers.

The yet unnamed album is being produced by none other than multiple Chain winner, Parris Macleod,  'Producer of the Year' in 2007 for The Bluezone's 'The Sweetest and Most Perfect Things' and in 2008 for Gail Page's 'Colours that Run' at the Australian Blues Music Awards.

Glen has gathered together some of the best musicians in the business for this project, including 2008 multiple 'Chain' Award winner, Gail Page, Motown legend and 2007 Urban Music Award winner, singer/songwriter and bass player Doug Williams, drummer extraordinaire, Calvin Welsh (Earth, Wind & Fire, Christine Anu, Renee Geyer, Eugene'Hideaway' Bridges, Kevin Borich), sax player Andy Thompson (Dire Straits, Moving Pictures, Renee Geyer) and winner of 3 Golden Harmonica Awards at Hohner's National Harmonica Championships in Tamworth, Christian Marsh on harp.

The Mama's Blooz House debut CD 'Let's play House' is also nearing completion with a target date of the week of 26th May...just in time for their appearances at 'Blues on Broadbeach'!!
